Our family just hit a significant milestone this week: TWO kids in school! Cece started first grade on Monday and Rosie started preschool/4k on Tuesday. Rosie is going to school 5 mornings a week so I will still have her around in the afternoons (which is great because I think Ares would miss his buddy too much if she was gone all day!).
I definitely missed having Cece around on her first day of school. She sprang out of bed like a daisy that morning, got herself all ready, walked the dog, asked Rosie to be a big helper for me, and was so excited to see all of her friends at the bus. I’m telling you, I think seven years old is a FABULOUS age. I love her positivity, brightness, thoughtfulness, creativity, self-sufficiency, and kindness. She says the things she is most looking forward to this school year are gym class, playing the ukulele in music, and eating Italian dunkers at lunch (I don’t know what those are, but I think they sound amazing).
Girl, I think this is going to be a GREAT school year for you and I can’t wait to see all of the things you do!
At last, Rosie’s moment to shine came and she got to hold her back-to-school sign, and ride her own bus (as least on the way home, the bus to school on her first day kind of missed us). She chose her clothes and her hairstyle, rocked her Trolls backpack, and set off to (hopefully) do awesome scholarly things like share, participate, and take turns in class.
I’m happy to report that Rosie had a great first day and got off the bus looking jubilant and very grown-up! Is this real life? Wasn’t she just an infant about five minutes ago?
It’s definitely going to be an adjustment for all of us getting into the swing of the school year. But I’m excited for us to transition to a school year schedule and to be a little less feral than we were in the summer. It will be different for me to only have one baby around her in the mornings, two in the afternoons, and back up to three in the evenings.
Girls, we love you both so much and we can’t wait to see what this school year holds in store for you!
