On April 30th, Ms. Cecelia Ray Gaetz turned eight! It was over a week ago, but I am currently still processing this milestone.
What’s she like at eight-years-old? She can be frequently found zooming around our neighborhood on her rollerblades, snuggling with our dog Princess Zuzu, reading Dog Man and Junie B. Jones books under her covers when she’s supposed to be sleeping, taking second (and then third) helpings at dinner, playing American Girl dolls with friends, setting up “school” in the basement and trying to give Rosie proper preparation for kindergarten, and often pleading to have sleepovers.
Cece is also one of the kindest, sweetest souls I’ve ever met in my life. She just wants the Earth to be ok, for everyone to be friends, and for us to have an unlimited supply of Nutella. Although she sometimes squabbles with her siblings (ok, just one of the siblings) and will usually leave her backpack in the middle of the hallway, she’s got a good heart and head and I believe she has a beautiful life in front of her.
It’s unreal to think that in eight more years, we’ll have a sixteen year old girl on our hands. Even though thinking too far into the future kind of makes me anxious, I find that it’s helpful to take things one day at a time, to always continue talking and having conversations about everything, and to, of course, write and take photos so I never forget all the big and small things about her.
We had no idea what we were in for when she was born eight years ago, but these past eight years changed my perspective on life and the world in the best possible way.
We love you Cece and I am so proud and blessed to be your mama!
